Peter and Jenny, I remember the day we recorded this song as well as singing it at the "Benefit." I find it so amazing how music and songs have a way of finding their own perfect time and place in our lives. I recently played the JBX cd and played "I Want My Life Back" several times, thinking how appropriate it was for not only aid's victims, but for any child of God who is struggling with the constant battle of daily life to regain our life back. I also realized the only true life I want back is that in which the Creator gave me in the image of Himself. If we can only learn to love one another unconditionally the way the Father loves us, the world would be a better place for it! I thank God for the Life he has given me, and allowed me to share and be a part of such great Musicians as your-selves!

Thank you Rose. Your comments make it all so worthwhile. [Rose lives in Cape Town, South Africa] I know that you live in the middle of this epidemic that's still raging. Your clarity on this subject is the prayer that will save the world.

Well Peter, you've done it again! Having lost a precious nephew to that
dreadful disease, and listening to "I want my life back" brought tears to my
eyes, and yet thinking about God being the only Life any of us really have, we
can never actually be separated from Life itself. Here in Africa the problem is
really huge. As Jenny said it would be better to gain our God-given dominion
over AIDS by learning to love more, see man as His pure and perfect reflection, forever one with his Creator. Thanks for an incredible song, Peter,
and for all the work you have done to lift the spirits of all those who have and
are suffering with AIDS

Whoa! Thanks for the comment, Jenny. For those reading, this is the lady who sang the song and took it way on out there. Her own ability to get inside these moments, as exhibited in this comment, was exactly the reason why I chose her to sing the song in the first place.

I’ve often gone back and listened to "I Want My Life Back" having always thought it was such a wonderfully crafted song. As Sara said, you captured something that could almost only be captured in the lyrics of a song dedicated to this subject. Songs are like a snap shot; and in the hands of a talented lyricist and composer will forever etch into the hearts of the listener the truth of its subject matter in indelible ways Each word you chose rang back the truth of a horrible reality, gave it a voice, and gave it dignity!

It also laid it on the line that after ALL is said and done, the most precious thing we each have is LIFE!

As I read the blog today and listened again to the song, I was struck by this thought: I think because of the shape things are in, perhaps nothing so horrible as AIDS, but the shape and quality of many a people's lives today -- as our world and our country is going through such a harsh wake-up call -- many people are saying "I Want My Life Back". Maybe when this shift is over and the dust settles, perhaps we will land on our feet, fully and finally awake.

Hopefully, we'll land in a better place, better able to appreciate and embrace this amazing thing called LIFE! Perhaps even humbled in the Face Of It! Better able to have the dominion that God originally gave us, without fighting, without hating, without suffering, but by loving. Maybe then there will be no such thing as AIDS or any other dis-ease to take our loved ones away too soon!

Thanks, Sara. A lot of us lost a lot of people -- great, creative minds, richly talented friends. I think of those days as days when you never knew what the next phone call would mean. I'm glad they're basically over in this country. Medical science has put a limiter on the effect, yet the cause still needs to be healed across the world. It's still a world-wide problem.

Never forget.

Peter, one of my duties as the New Media Director for Watchfire Music is to help you with your blog. I look at this as a perk more than a duty as I get the privilege of reading your posts before the rest of the world.

Today's post about your inspiration for writing "I Want My Life Back" for the Manhatten Plaza AIDS prevention organization left me in tears - especially after I heard the .mp3 of the song.

Like you, I have lost many friends over the years, to AIDS. The song reminds me of treasured friendships with people now here now, whom I had the privilege of working with in various capacities of the entertainment industry.

Death is always sad when it comes too soon for friends, but AIDS makes it particularly terrible. The song, "I Want My Life Back" describes so beautifully the plea and the acceptance by those who are dealing with this disease. I think you did a wonderful job writing the lyrics and music about such a painful subject. Thank you!
