Easter approacheth. That usually means Spring. That definitely means rejuvenation. Sum total: renewal of heart, mind and life.

Easter brings hope. At its base is the hope and proof of life eternal. For those of us who love this life even with all its struggles (and that’s probably 99.99% of the folks on the planet) the hope of life eternal is very real. It’s built into our struggle to survive, a baby’s first cry and breath, an old man’s lingering death rattle just before passing on.

Thoughts On Easter

Easter Eggs from Sparks from the Fire blogWhat a weekend! It’s about as dramatic a 3 days as you’ll find on the calendar. To be killed and then to rise up from the dead. Now there’s a Story For The Ages.

And so we celebrate this man’s life. Easter. “Eastre is believed to be an ancient word for spring”. How perfect. The awakening of all life. The climax to this man’s incredible existence. He raises Lazarus from the dead and then somehow figures out how to then do it for himself as well. Pretty amazing.

Jesus Christ Superstar” was a hit Broadway musical of the 70s. It was a rock opera written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. At the very end of the opera, Jesus dies on the cross. As the curtain came down I sat aghast in the theater incredulous at the missed moment. As people stood cheering, I sat stunned. During the bows of the company I wanted to stand up and shout to them, “Hey, did you ever hear about Easter?” They left off the happy ending in a Broadway musical! Duh.
